The
AS Level element of the ICT A Level course consists of three modules: -
AS Unit 1 (ICT
1) - Information: Nature, Role and Context. (written
examination).

AS Unit 2 (ICT
2) - Information: Management and Manipulation. (written
examination).
-
AS Unit 3 (ICT
3) - The use of Generic Application Software for an IT solution.
(coursework).

The
year is divided into 2 parts: -
Part 1: 16 weeks to January
for Module 1, exam in January. The spreadsheet revision and the
introduction and half of the spreadsheet coursework.

Part 2: 15 weeks to May for
Module 2, exam in May/June. The continuation and completion of the
spreadsheet coursework.

The
Course Aims to Develop: - -An
understanding of the nature of information, its structure, application and implications
of its uses.
- -An
awareness of the role of IT in the management, manipulation and dissemination
of information.
- -An
understanding of the role of people, technology and systems in organisations.
- -An awareness of the economic, social and ethical
implications of the use of IT systems.
- -An understanding
of the range of applications and information systems, with their capabilities
and limitations, and the implications of their use.
- -A
development of problem solving skills through the practical application of ICT.
- -The ability to analyse, appraise and make constructive
and critical judgements about the use of ICT.
- -The development of interpersonal skills necessary
with working with and communicating with others.
