Five-A-Day
Fruit
and Vegetable Database
You
will create a database to store information about Five a Day portions.
This will be used to find useful information for the potential Five A
Day users.
(Click
on the Information Pack and read the page 'Database
Search' to find out how it will be used).
The data you need has been provided in this Spreadsheet.
You can find out what the data item codes are by looking at this Codes.doc
list. (rtf). For example the
first one is the name of the item.
Design and
create a suitable database structure to store the data. Make sure that
each field has a suitable name, datatype, format and length. You must
include simple validation rules where appropriate.
The
database design with fields, datatypes and validation.
The database with the data in the table.
Ask
a test user to check that your database structure is correct then import
the data set. If records are rejected, checkthat your validation rules
work as intended and keep a note of any rejected items for your eportfolio.
Add five
new records to the database. These could be new vegetables or fruits or
they could be different ways of serving items that are already in the
database. For example, 150 ml of grape juice is just as good as a handful
of grapes but it's not in the database at the moment.
Save
evidence of your database structure for your eportfolio, including validation
features. You will also need evidence of the new records you added.
